Diodes Incorporated's new AL1697 LED driver targets line-powered, TRIAC dimmable LED lighting applications. This device uses a single-stage, high-power-factor dimming circuit that complies with the NEMA SSL-6 dimming curve and is compatible with leading-edge and trailing-edge triac dimmers to provide optimal line and load regulation. The integrated MOSFET eliminates the need for auxiliary windings, thereby reducing BOM costs and enabling smaller PCBs, which makes it an attractive and competitive solution for driving LED lights up to 15W. The AL1697 is a high precision, high efficiency, buck-boost LED driver with a topology that provides accurate output current for excellent line and load regulation. The design supports non-isolated (buck-boost) operation to meet the isolation requirements of different lamps. Operating in boundary conduction mode enables higher conversion efficiency, while reducing switching noise and simplifying EMI design. The device has a low startup current of 130 μA and a low operating current of 170 μA. The MOSFET option provides a 4Ω drain-source on-resistance specification to operate up to 2A at 600V, or a 1.8Ω super-junction RDS (ON) to support 4A at 650V. AL1697 provides standard internal protection functions such as output short circuit, overheating, undervoltage lockout, leading edge blanking and cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection. The device also has overvoltage / output disconnection and thermal foldback protection for enhanced safety and reliability.
