Hirose has developed a medium-sized USB 3.1 Type-C connector with an efficient design that takes up little space and saves valuable PCB space. The shorter design is only 8.35mm deep, creating additional PCB space for optimized antenna design and allowing for greater battery capacity. In comparison, traditional C-type connectors are longer, up to 9.4mm, which consumes valuable PCB space. The CX70 series USB 3.1 Gen1 Type C compatible interface connector supports 5Gbps high-speed applications. The Hirose Hybrid CX70 Series simplifies retrofit and repair operations by using SMT and through-hole soldering. The hybrid design also facilitates automatic optical inspection and simplifies rework of solder terminal fittings with visible lead designs. As a USB 3.1 Type C connector, it has a symmetrical mating design and can be reversibly inserted into a plug. "The USB Type-C interface provides customers with a universal connector with twice the throughput of USB 3.0 and higher power," said Rick van Weezel, vice president of sales and marketing for Hirose Electric in the United States. "Small footprint The area and hybrid mounting design make the CX70 series ideal for many consumer, portable and other devices that can take advantage of USB 3.1 features for speed and power. " The company said that the mid-position CX70 series USB 3.1 has a rated current of 5A and a total power of 100W.
