Infineon Technologies AG now offers MERUS dual-channel, analog input, Class D Audio Amplifier Multi-chip module (MCM) MA5332MS. In the 100-400W/ channel range, it is ideal for consumer products including boxed home theater, subwoofers, bar speakers and mini component systems. It is also ideal for professional applications such as active speakers, guitar amplifiers, active studio listeners, aftermarket automotive and Marine audio amplifiers. It is a powerful upgrade over its predecessor, offering the same or even higher power output as the monolithic alternative, no radiator and 50% less footprint.

The device comes in a compact 7mm x 7mm2 42-pin QFN package that integrates a two-channel PWM controller, a high-voltage gate driver, and four low R DS(ON) MOSFEts. Due to its very low R DS(on) Class D output stage (typical 24.4mOhm), it can provide 2 x 100W at 4 ohms with absolutely no fin or 2 x 200W at 4 ohms with a small 8C/W fin. Compared to other SCM solutions, this is an overall reduction in size. It offers differential or single-ended input and multiple output configuration options, single-ended (2X SE), bridged load and coupled single-ended, utilizing a single or split power supply. Providing SE topology as an alternative to BTL can reduce bus capacitance and output low pass filters.

A new internal logic scheme for controlling soft-start operations further reduces click and pop noise. Based on its improved characteristics, the device reduces BOM costs and thermal management issues, provides more space for industrial design, and provides superior efficiency and low output distortion. In addition, as a highly integrated MCM, it also integrates the protection circuit for over current, over temperature and under voltage protection, and has a self-reset function. This on-chip protection circuit saves time in creating protection using external protection components.
