Dughosi is working with GlobalFoundries to develop feature-rich chips for electric vehicles in the automotive industry. The company has designed and marketed a new battery management technology that uses wireless communication protocols to transmit health data from individual cells through battery packs.

Dukosi's BMS chipset allows suppliers to redesign electric vehicle batteries and remove more than 95% of the cables currently required to monitor battery pack temperature, health and state of charge. What is unique is that the design adopts NFC technology. The single antenna directly monitors and processes data on the battery unit, and wirelessly communicates these data to the central BMS. The simplified battery pack design reduces the weight and improves the battery density, thus increasing the driving distance.

The partnership supports the manufacture of production-grade silicon designed to meet stringent safety and reliability standards in its end markets, including the AECQ100 automotive class. It will use GF Auto Pro Solution, a platform for automotive technical features, controls and services to ensure silicon quality and reliability meets the needs of the automotive industry.

"Battery management is critical to the safe and efficient operation of batteries," said Nat Edington, CEO of Dukosi. "The market demands that BMS be able to meet the space and reliability requirements of their applications. Until now, battery management has been done via bulky wires that connect all batteries to a central BMS. By replacing individual wires with a simple antenna that more accurately measures and processes data from each cell, the battery itself becomes safer, simpler and smarter."

Kamal Khouri, vice president of GF automotive, said: "Globalfoundries is pleased to work with dukosi to bring revolutionary and innovative solutions to the battery management system of electric vehicles. "This cooperation is a good example of how companies like dugaoxi can use gf's rich functional technology to create subversive solutions for the development of the automotive industry and electric vehicles."
