The AP431i adjustable shunt regulator is the latest product from Diodes Incorporated. Its minimum cathode current is 50μA, which is significantly lower than the equivalent industry standard 431 device. This enables manufacturers of switch-mode power supplies to target applications requiring extremely low power consumption, especially 12V / 19V adapters / chargers, and TVs and displays where target standby power consumption is important. The competitive price of the AP431i three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator has reliable thermal stability over the entire operating range, fast turn-on characteristics, low temperature coefficient, and low output impedance. The AP431i has the same electrical specifications as the standard 431, and has the advantage of being able to be adjusted with a lower minimum cathode current (typically 50 μA). This key differentiator makes it ideal for use as a Zener diode replacement for switched-mode power supplies (SMPS). The output voltage of AP431i can be set to any value between VREF (2.5V) and the corresponding maximum cathode voltage (36V). Two levels of initial voltage tolerances are available, 0.5% and 1%, respectively, and three package options are available: TO-92 (Ammunition Packaging), SOT-23, and SOT-89. These packages are fully RoHS compliant and are completely "green" free of lead, halogen and antimony.
