Infineon Technologies has introduced a highly efficient and reliable step-down DC-DC converter module. The module provides low supply current (10µA) during shutdown, providing longer battery life for portable applications. In addition to the PoL series, these modules are ideal for system designers looking for a compact, fully integrated and simple to design PoL product to help them speed time to market. They primarily address space and thermally constrained telecom and datacom applications, servers and network storage.

The TDM3883 and 3885 IPOLs are fully integrated single output buck converters that provide high efficiency continuous 3A/4A load capability and line regulation across a wide input supply range (4.5-14V). Integrated inductors and capacitors reduce external components for easier design and higher power density. Compared to discrete solutions, integration provides better performance due to low parasitics by minimizing the required PCB routing traces. At the same time, due to its tiny package size, the module fits into limited PCB space providing up to 80% area saving customer solutions. In these optimized modules, the company over-tests integrated inductors and capacitors in reliability and final testing, eliminating the need for passive component selection and testing.

In addition, their tight reference voltage VREF tolerance (0.5V±1%) and low ripple provide precise power transfer, contributing to system stability and reliability. They have adopted an enhanced stability COT engine with ceramic capacitors and no external compensation, and have adopted the FCCM option to further support this. In addition, the module features thermally compensated internal OCP to enhance light load efficiency and reduce switching frequency and DEM. Under ultra-light loads, they can enter a low quiescent current mode, ideal for standby power. Additional features include internal soft-start, enable input, pre-bias start-up, thermal shutdown, power-good output, OVP and UVLO.
