While improving the performance, efficiency, and reliability of high-voltage power supplies, there is also a need to reduce component count and BOM (Bill of Materials) costs, as well as reduce the amount of design effort required. To meet these needs, Infineon Technologies AG has launched its fifth-generation fixed-frequency (FF) CoolSET product portfolio, which is designed to provide the right key components to optimize designs. Infineon's new 800V and 950V AC-DC Integrated Power Stage (IPS) products are available in DIP-7 packages for auxiliary power supplies for household appliances, AC-DC converters, battery chargers, solar systems, and motor control and drives and other application requirements.

The fixed frequency CoolSETTM solution integrates a PWM controller IC and the latest high voltage CoolMOS P7 superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs in a single package. The expanded product portfolio includes the market's first power semiconductor devices that integrate a 950V avalanche-resistant superjunction MOSFET to support a wider input voltage range. The new device supports both isolated and non-isolated topologies including Flyback and Buck, and can operate at switching frequencies of 100 kHz and 65 kHz. Supports both low system cost Buck and universal Flyback in one device, simplifying customer supply chain; integrated error amplifier supports primary-side feedback, typical of non-isolated topologies, which further reduces device count and design complexity.

A frequency reduction mode with integrated soft drive and frequency dithering mitigates EMI and improves efficiency at medium and light load conditions. Support continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), under low-voltage input conditions, CCM can reduce conduction loss, thereby improving efficiency and meeting international energy efficiency standards. Integrated MOSFETs support ultra-wide input voltage ranges such as those associated with single-phase smart meters and industrial applications. In addition, this product also helps to optimize the design of the snubber circuit to further improve efficiency and reduce standby power consumption.

All new products integrate a variety of self-recovery protection functions to support the power supply system through an automatic restart function in the event of a fault. The perfect protection function, coupled with the high breakdown voltage characteristics of the superjunction MOSFET, further improves the stability of the power supply. In addition, Active Burst Mode (ABM) improves light load performance and enables ultra-low standby power consumption with small and controllable output voltage ripple.
