Lattice Semiconductor has announced the availability of its latest SiI7012, SiI7013 and SiI7014 port controllers to expand its USB Type-C product family. The port controller is used to configure the USB Type-C upstream port (UFP) or downstream facing port (DFP), detect the cable direction and negotiate the power transmission (PD) on the USB Type-C connection. Lattice devices provide space-saving, cost- and power-saving designs that provide flexibility so manufacturers can quickly adopt them to transition to the latest USB Type-C interfaces. These three new designs combine with Lattice's existing USB Type-C port controllers to provide a comprehensive product portfolio. The SiI7012 and SiI7013 port controllers provide an integrated solution that detects and decodes configuration channel (CC) and bi-phase mark code (BMC) messages through a USB Type-C connector without the need for discrete components. These ICs are used in conjunction with existing application processors (APs) and embedded controllers (ECs) to provide cost-optimized USB Type-C port controllers. These solutions meet the latest PD and CC requirements defined in the USB specification. The SiI7012 is available in a small CSP package for smartphones, while the SiFN7013's QFN package is ideal for laptops and accessories. The SiI7014 IC supports the auxiliary channel (AUX) and hot-plug detection (HPD) signals needed to implement DisplayPort on USB Type-C. In addition, "Our cost-effective USB Type-C port controllers provide the key features manufacturers need-reversible connectors, smart power transfer, and USB data," said Cheng Hwee Chee, senior director of consumer markets at Lattice Semiconductor. "We are excited to offer an expanded USB Type-C product portfolio to support the rapidly growing USB Type-C market."
