Littelfuse has introduced six series of high temperature sensitive, standard and AC TRIACs designed specifically for use as semiconductor switches in appliances and equipment powered by line AC voltages up to 220VRMS. These components are packaged in a compact surface mount package and are said to be the industry's first TRIAC with such a high maximum temperature, available in 4A, 6A and 8A ratings. The combination of space-saving packaging, high-temperature functionality and rated current makes it ideal for IoT applications that require compact designs but do not involve continuous high currents, such as thermostats, smart doorbells, ceiling fans / lights, door locks, and many more Sensitive components ensure low current gate control in quadrants I and IV to interface with digital control circuits. Standard components usually work in quadrants I and III and are triggered by AC lines. Alternator-type components only work in quadrants I, II, and III, are triggered by AC lines, and are used in circuits that require high dv / dt capability. These devices have a maximum junction temperature of 150 ° C and can help circuit designers address thermal management issues due to limited or no heat dissipation by providing greater thermal design margin. Their high surge capability makes it easy to handle cold inrush currents in heater or motor control applications. Koichiro Yoshimoto, Business Development Manager, Littelfuse Semiconductor Business Unit, said: "The combination of a robust fixture connection assembly design and the highest operating junction temperature ensures the high surge capability required to withstand short-term overload conditions." Available in a choice of current ratings, these components enable designers to minimize board size for low-power applications such as LED lighting, solenoid drivers, and motor drivers.
