Murata - Small LoRa-based module offers reduced current consumption

Technology Cover
Post Date: 2020-02-05, Murata

Murata now offers a new LoRa-based module that, at just 10mm x 8mm x 1.6mm, is claimed to be the smallest available in the world. Ideal for a broad range of high-volume applications where small size, extended battery life, long-range, security and a competitive price point are necessities.

Based upon a second-generation Semtech SX1262 RFIC, the Type 1SJ LoRa module also offers an open STM32L0 MCU from STMicroelectronics as well as an RF switch and 192kB of Flash memory and 20kB of RAM. This comprehensive memory provision assures that sufficient resources are provided for the application layers. Also housed in the very small module is a TXCO and multiple communication interfaces including UART, I2C, SPI, ADC, USB and various GPIOs.

Created for deployment worldwide, the module supports ISM bands from 868MHz to 916MHz, including those employed in Europe, USA, India, China and the Pacific Rim.

“Semtech’s LoRa technology, with its long-range, flexible capabilities, is the platform of choice for IoT applications,” said Pedro Pachuca, director of wireless products. “Murata’s new LoRa-based module will help develop and expand its unique IoT solutions in a variety of industries, including asset tracking smart buildings and utilities.”

The new Type 1SJ LoRa-based module will assist designers in developing solutions that satisfy the most demanding needs, particularly in areas such as asset tracking, smart cities, smart buildings, utilities, agriculture, industrial and other IoT applications.
