Nexperia Ultra Low Capacitance ESD Protection Diodes Protect Automotive Data Interfaces

Technology Cover
Post Date: 2022-08-02, NXP

The high-volume production specialist in basic semiconductor devices today announced the expansion of its portfolio of ultra-low clamping and ultra-low capacitance ESD protection diodes. The product portfolio is designed to protect high-speed data lines such as USB 3.2, HDMI 2.0, LVDS, automotive A/V monitors, displays and cameras. In addition, the product portfolio is also designed to address future high-speed video links as well as Open Technology Alliance MGbit Ethernet applications.

New products include the 2-pin 1-wire devices PESD5V0C1BLS-Q and PESD5V0C1ULS-Q, housed in the ultra-compact DFN1006BD-2 package while optimizing routing flexibility. In addition, there are two 3-pin differential line devices PESD5V0C2UM and PESD5V0C2UM-Q in the DFN1006-3 package. All versions are available in leadless packages for improved electrical performance and signal integrity.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) voltage clamping diodes play a vital role in protecting data interfaces in automotive subsystems from damage. More importantly, they do not affect data signal integrity or negatively impact the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance of the systems they protect. Nexperia has long-standing expertise in designing ESD protection solutions that enable ultra-low device capacitance (as low as 0.3 pF), enabling these diodes to provide excellent signal integrity performance. To maximize design flexibility, these diodes are available in two-wire DFN1006-3 and single-wire DFN1006BD-2 packages. The latter package has solderable sides for automatic optical inspection (AOI)

These AEC-Q101 automotive-qualified devices feature deep springback and low 0.27 Ω resistance to improve system-level robustness and clamping performance in high-speed data interfaces.
