Microchip Technology offers a family of space-grade DC-DC power converters based on discrete components that now include 28V inputs and 50W radiation resistant options, eliminating the cost, complexity and customization difficulties of hybrid solutions.

Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip's discrete products business unit said:"Our newest 28v input SA50-28 products greatly simplify and accelerate system development,"  "They are easier to customize than other space-grade power converters, so they can be tailored to specific voltages. , current and other requirements. Customers gain flexibility while reducing the size, cost and complexity of space system designs. "

Its SA50-28 series is the industry's only off-the-shelf, 28V input, radiation-resistant power converter based on surface mount construction and discrete components with non-hybrid assembly processes. It offers more functionality than existing space-level power converters, and a single device with custom parameters eliminates the volume, weight and complexity of using a hybrid solution.

Compared to hybrid power converter products, the device can be customized relatively quickly to the strict power requirements of the system and at minimal additional cost. Other features include high efficiency, low output noise, output suppression control, overcurrent protection, external synchronization and full fixed-power operation through −55C to +85C linear derating to +125C. The comprehensive product line is a 20V-40V input, 50W series, with nine standard outputs in 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V and 28V, single output and triple output configurations.

This new line is part of the company's growing line of standard non-hybrid, space-grade power converters, allowing designers to use commercially available, off-the-shelf components with circuits with a proven spaceflight legacy.
