The ISL8009A is an efficient, monolithic, synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator in a 2mmx3mm 8 Ld DFN package with a maximum height of 1mm. The entire converter covers an area of less than 1cm2. Can provide up to 1.5A continuous output current. It is optimized to produce an output voltage as low as 0.8V. the 2.7V to 5.5V supply voltage range allows the use of a single Li+ battery, three NiMH batteries or an adjustable 5V input.

The ISL8009A uses a current mode control architecture that provides very low duty cycle operation at high frequencies, with fast transient response and excellent loop stability. It features flexible operating mode selection, forced PWM mode and automatic PFM/PWM with static current as low as 17 μA to achieve high power conversion efficiency under light load conditions, thus maximizing battery life. The high 1.6MHz pulse-width-modulated (PWM) switching frequency allows the use of small external components.

The ISL8009A integrates a pair of low-on-resistance P-channel and N-channel internal MosFeTs to maximize efficiency and reduce the number of external components. 100% duty cycle operation allows A drop voltage of less than 400mV at 1.5A output current. The ISL8009A provides a 2ms power-on reset (POR) timer during power-on.The timer output can be reset using RSI. When closing, ISL8009A through 100  resistance discharge output capacitance. Other features include internal digital soft start, power sequential enable, overcurrent protection, and hot shutdown.
