Basic communications networks -- 5G mobile, utilities, cables, transportation, defense and data centers -- acquire and maintain precisely timed signals from GPS or other global satellite constellations. These networks require redundant backup systems when GNSS signals are unavailable. Microchip Technology's TimeProvider 4100 Release 2.3 Precise Timing Master fulfills this need, using the industry's latest IEEE 1588 V2.1 2019 security standard to protect timing systems. It also provides a higher level of deployment flexibility and scalability.

This new option implements the latest IEEE 1588 2.1 standard majority voting mechanism to select the best input for APTS backup protection. The solution introduces a super-flexible multi-client PTP optional license that provides customers with up to three connections to other masters in the carrier network. This capability can be used as a backup for time and phase inputs.

In addition, it provides additional deployment flexibility, enabling two PTP server profiles to be configured on each Ethernet port. It also enables point TP servers, point TP clients and in-band management to be utilized on a single port. Customers can now optimize the use of these ports without additional hardware investment.

The solution includes support for architecture-directed security, which uses redundant communication paths between PTP nodes to detect tampering. It also implements out-of-band management mechanisms for detecting tampering, degradation, and failures. This master timer provides full support for AAA and two-factor authentication. As a software update, the solution is available for new and deployed systems. The solution provides higher security by supporting the latest IEEE 1588 2.1 2019 standard.

It can be managed through the company's TimePictra synchronization management system to achieve complete FCAPS.
