TDK Group has launched the CLT32 series of power inductors with a new design. In addition to being extremely compact in size, this family of components has excellent electrical specifications and is available in nine models covering an inductance range of 17 nH to 440 nH, a saturation current range of 13.5 A to 60 A, and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 165 °C including inductor temperature rise. All of them are extremely compact, with a footprint of only 3.2 x 2.5 mm and a height of 2.5 mm, making them the most compact SMT power inductors in their class.

The new series of components are certified to the AEC-Q200 standard and feature innovative designs such as coils overmolded with ferromagnetic plastic compounds. The end of the coil is used directly as the inductor pad, eliminating the outdated conventional solder joint connection between the coil and the inductor pad, greatly improving the reliability of the product, ideal for automotive applications. The robust coil construction also achieves an ultra-low RDC value (only 0.39 mΩ for an inductance value of 17 nH), which minimizes losses.

The compact size and reliable performance of the CLT32 series inductors make them ideal for safety-critical ADAS/AD applications in the automotive industry. In this application, a high-performance processor with a current rating of up to two digits is usually required, and a PMIC (Power Management IC) is used as the power management to deliver the high current, while the power inductor is used as a key element to stabilize the power output. The components of the CLT32 family are designed for switching frequencies up to 10 MHz and are well ahead of future requirements for high frequency DC/DC converters.
