TDK Introduces Tube-Clamp NTC Sensors for Electric Vehicle Heat Pump Applications

Technology Cover
Post Date: 2022-09-28, TDK Corporation

TDK Corporation introduces the new B58101A0109A* (HP100) series of heat pump sensors. This is an NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensor specially designed to meet the requirements of automotive applications, which can indirectly measure the refrigerant temperature inside the pipe by measuring the temperature of the pipe surface.

The new components are suitable for harsh service applications and offer a range of features and benefits, such as: pipe clamp design, standard for 12.8 mm pipe diameter; operating temperature range from -40 °C to +150 °C; water immersion waterproof for long time Up to 500 hours; response time less than 7 seconds; AEC-Q200 qualified with dielectric strength up to 1250 V AC/10 seconds (an important criterion for electric vehicle applications); low temperature tolerance of ±0.3 at 85 °C nominal K, can ensure high control accuracy.

The tube-clamp design makes the sensor very easy to install and measures refrigerant temperature without entering the coolant or refrigerant circuit, minimizing the risk of leaks. In addition, the sensor is robust and typical applications include the measurement of refrigerant temperature in heat pumps, which are an important part of thermal management of high-voltage batteries in electric vehicles (BEVs).
