Infineon launched XDP XDP710 digital controller, which is the first member of its intelligent hot plug controller and protection IC family. The hot plug and system monitoring controller IC provide an input voltage range of 5.5V to 80V, and the transient voltage can reach 100V, lasting for 500ms. It consists of three functional units. The first is high-precision telemetry and digital SOA control block, which is optimized to meet the power mosfet characteristics of the company. The second is the system resource and management block, and the third is the integrated gate driver and charge pump block of n-channel power mosfet, such as optimmos and StrongIRFET series.

The main features of the controller are its advanced closed-loop SOA control and full digital working mode. This results in lower BOMs, reduced external components and design time, and faster time to market. The device can also operate in analog auxiliary digital mode to support legacy systems.

"Infineon's XDP710 digital hot plug controller well meets the product requirements of HGX platform. Like its unique functions, such as selecting external FET to use resistance bundled mode and boost mode. This helps XDP710's small package and is easy to design," said Abhijit Datta, NVIDIA's senior power architect and subject matter expert

"The XDP710 hot plug controller is a feature rich device with a high-precision analog front-end, as well as a comprehensive health monitoring, telemetry, programmability and pre-set MOSFET SOA. It solves the challenges related to the design of current pluggable AI server solutions," said Shahram Mehraban, vice president of power management ic in Infineon Power and Sensor Systems.
