The PVG612 series photovoltaic relay is a single-pole normally open solid-state relay that can replace electromechanical relays in many applications. It uses International Rectifier Corporation's proprietary HEXFET power MOSFET as an output switch and is driven by a new structured integrated circuit photovoltaic generator.

The output switch is controlled by radiation from GaAlAs light-emitting diodes (leds) that are optically isolated from the photovoltaic generator. These devices exceed the performance of electromechanical relays in terms of service life, sensitivity, on-resistance stability, miniaturization, magnetic field insensitivity, and robustness.

The compact PVG612 is particularly suitable for high current isolation switches with 12 to 48 volts AC or DC power supplies. Series PVG612 relays are packaged in a 6-pin, moulded DIP package with through-hole or surface-mounted (gull-wing) terminals. It is available in standard plastic transport tubing or tape andreel.
