A new generation of low voltage MOSFET for smartphone battery protection

Technology Cover

Magnachip Semiconductor has released a new generation LV MOSFET that provides lower Rss(ON) for smartphone battery PCM.

The company has created a new generation of low-voltage MOSFEts with advanced overvoltage and overcurrent protection features to improve battery life and reduce overheating problems.

The new 6.5g product's Rss(ON) is 20% lower than previous versions at the same chip size to reduce current losses and improve heat dissipation. This lower rotary steering-on controls the high power density above 25W to prevent the battery from overheating and protect the PCM when the battery is quickly charged.

In addition, PCM functionality has been enhanced with an upgraded ESD protection diode. The diode is based on a human body model and can reduce ESD by up to 2kV to enhance circuit protection and prevent damage to other parts of the smartphone. Coupled with powerful battery protection, the size of the chip is significantly reduced to meet the needs of new smartphones.

Magnachip CEO YJ Kim said:"Despite the current global chip shortage, we are confident that as an integrated equipment manufacturer for these new 6.5g products, we can maintain strong supplier capabilities for our customers,"  "We will continue to maintain close relationships with our existing customers while expanding our presence in global markets."
