U-blox has introduced a range of car-grade positioning modules that operate at temperatures up to 105C. The NEO-M9L module and M9140-KA-DR chip are built on the powerful U-Blox M9 GNSS platform and use dead reckoning technology to generate accurate position data in the event of satellite signal damage or unavailability.

The NEO-M9L-20A and Neo-M9L-01A modules, as well as the M9140-KA-DR chip, are designed specifically for first-time automotive solutions. These modules and chips are automotive grade, and the Neo-M9L-01A offers an extended operating temperature range up to 105C, making it ideal for integration on the roof, behind the windshield, or inside the thermal ECU. Application areas include IVI and HEAD unit, TCU integration, V2X and other integrated navigation systems.

The module offers a low-latency 50Hz position update rate, making it ideal for use in real-time applications. The new generation of six-axis IMU provides low latency 100Hz RAW data output. ADR output intelligently combines GNSS positioning with IMU data to provide the most accurate positioning output for a given scenario. Further GNSS only output allows seamless integration into the mix of third-party applications. The receiver also supports follow up wake-up, which helps with intelligent features such as theft protection and energy saving designs.

The chip protects against possible GNSS signal spoofing, which could cause the navigation system to report incorrect location data or time. The modules allow innovative sensor-based spoofing detection for advanced security and robustness.

"The U-Blox M9 sensor fusion product meets the automotive market's latest requirements for quality, reliability and robustness. Aravinthan Athmanathan, location product Manager at U-Blox Product Center, says that by receiving four GNSS constellations simultaneously, the availability and reliability of location output is improved. "In addition, compared to the previous generation, the deception detection function has been upgraded to a new level. Combined with low-latency position output, attitude and sensor data, u-Blox NEO-M9L is ready to address current and future challenges in the automotive market."
