Pickering Electronics has added isolation voltages up to 4kV to its small 104 series high voltage reed relays. The newly introduced version offers a 1000VDC isolation voltage improvement over the original base 104 series.

Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics commented "The higher isolation voltage improves the performance of the relay and allows for an increase in equipment size. This also means that additional safety and security is added to the high voltage protection margin."

The 104 series high voltage isolated reed relays are ideal for transformer and cable test applications or any other automatic test equipment involving high voltage. For example, in power supply voltage switches, devices for controlling and isolating the SCR or SCR gate are ideal.

Four types of dry switches are available for stacking at 0.25" spacing and are able to stand at 1.5,2,3 or 4kVDC. Higher rated voltage is available upon request. The 3kV and 4kV versions benefit from increased clearance between the switch and coil pins to accommodate higher voltages.

The series has one or two switches in a single package, one form A, two form A and one form B configurations, and 5V, 12V or 24V coils with optional internal diodes. The internal MU-metal screen eliminates the problem of magnetic interactions that occur when relays are tightly stacked.

Mercury wet devices can also be used in applications where no rebound switch is required. These are rated at 1500VDC minimum distance and 500VDC switches at up to 50W.As a standard, the 104 series has a product life promise of more than 25 years.
