Infineon Technologies AG has added a new CoolGaN IPS series of integrated power stage (IPS) products to its extensive WBG power device portfolio. The initial IPS product portfolio includes half-bridge and single-channel products for low and medium power applications, including chargers and adapters, and SMPS.

The 600V CoolGaN half-bridge IPS IGI60F1414A1L is very suitable for compact and lightweight designs in the low and medium power range. It is packaged in a thermally enhanced 8x8 QFN-28, enabling a system with extremely high power density. This product combines two 140mOhm/600V CoolGaN e-mode HEMT switches with dedicated galvanically isolated high-end and low-end gate drivers in the company's EiceDRIVER series.

Thanks to the isolated gate driver with two digital PWM inputs, the device is easy to control. Integrated isolation, clean separation of digital ground and power ground, and reduced PCB layout complexity are essential to shorten development time, reduce system BOM, and reduce overall cost. The input to output isolation of the gate driver is based on its on-chip coreless transformer technology. This guarantees high speed and excellent robustness even for extremely fast switching transients with voltage slopes exceeding 150V/ns.

The switching behavior of IGI60F1414A1L can be easily adapted to the needs of different applications using a small number of passive gate path components. This provides slew rate optimization, for example, to reduce EMI operation, steady-state gate current settings, and negative gate drive for durable operation in hard-switching applications.

In addition, due to the system-in-package integration and the high accuracy and stable propagation delay of the gate driver, the device can provide the lowest possible system dead time. This helps to maximize system efficiency and bring the power density of charger and adapter solutions to the next level, up to 35W/in³. The flexible, simple and fast design is also suitable for other applications, including LLC resonant topologies and motor drives.
