Maxim Integrated high efficiency, maximum power step-down DC-DC converter

Technology Cover
Post Date: 2022-12-20, Maxim Integrated

The MAX5033 is an easy-to-use, efficient, high-voltage, step-down DC-DC converter that operates from a maximum input voltage of 76V and consumes only 270μA of static current when idle. This pulse-width modulation (PWM) converter operates at a fixed 125kHz switching frequency under heavy loads and automatically switches to a pulse-regulated mode to provide low static current and high efficiency under light loads.

Simplified Block Diagram

The MAX5033 includes internal frequency compensation for simplified circuit implementation. The device uses internal low conductance resistance, high voltage, DMOS transistors to achieve high efficiency and reduce overall system cost. The device includes undervoltage locking, cycle limiting, belch mode output short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown. MAX5033 Output current up to 500mA. The output current may be limited by the maximum power consumption capacity of the package. Including external shutdown, with 10μA(typical) shutdown current.

Application Circuit

The MAX5033A/B/C versions have fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V and 12V, respectively, while the MAX5033D has adjustable output voltages of 1.25V to 13.2V. The MAX5033 operates in the automotive (-40°C to +125°C) temperature range with a space-saving 8-pin SO and 8-pin plastic DIP package.
