NXP Semiconductors now offers its new higher power BTS7202 RX FEM and BTS6403/6305 pre-drivers for 5G high-capacity MIMO up to 20W per channel. The device was developed and implemented in a SiGe process with moderate current consumption to reduce the operating cost of MNOs. They also provide better linearity and lower noise data to support better 5G signal quality.

The new pre-driver provides a comprehensive and easy-to-implement solution for 5G base stations, complementing its power amplifier solution for 32T32R radios. The BTS7202 RX FEMs provide a switch capable of handling up to 20W of power leakage from the transmission line, reducing system complexity. BTS6305 Pre-Drivers also incorporate a balun to reduce cost.

As 5G networks continue to be built around the world, MNOs are increasingly using 32T32R solutions to enhance Massive MIMO coverage in lower-density cities and suburbs. Using the 32T32R solution requires the use of higher power equipment, increasing the power level of each channel to achieve the total power required to provide strong 5G signal coverage.

"As 5G networks begin to densify, higher power solutions are critical to ensure consistent network and signal quality," said Doeco Terpstra, vice president and general manager of Smart Antenna Solutions at NXP Radio Power. "Our customers recognize that , the higher power solution provides network operators with a way to address the power requirements of a 32-antenna solution without compromising network quality."
