Power modules from next-generation isolation

Würth Elektronik offers the next generation 1W "Fixed Isolation SIP/SMT Module". The power module adopts a fully integrated DC-DC voltage converter with a fixed output voltage. Modules include power stages, transformers, input and output capacitors. No external components are required for operation and the circuit design effort is minimal

The company measured the module using filter combinations, some of which are listed in the datasheet, and found that the module's radiated and conducted emissions were below the limits of EMC standard EN55032/CISPR32 Class B. Unique features of the improved integrated voltage converter include continuous short circuit protection and increased isolation voltage. Nine new modules in standard SIP-4, SIP-7 and SMT-8 packages are pin-to-pin compatible with the previous MagI³C FISM.

This reduces development costs and enables rapid time-to-market with new applications. The complete product line is certified to the current UL standard UL62368-1, but the new modules offer more safety. They are not damaged by short circuits and are capable of withstanding isolation voltages of 1.5 kV for SIP-4 modules and 3 kV for SIP-7 and SMT-8 modules for 60 seconds.

This makes the new MagI³C-FISM more useful as a functional isolation to prevent ground loops, ground plane excursions and interference from signal paths or sensor systems. This isolation voltage is essential when developing power supplies for interfaces and microcontrollers in test equipment or industrial electronics.
