Littelfuse, Inc. has released a new line of Pxxx0S3N SIDACtor Protective thyristors to power devices in harsh environments, enhance protection against severe overvoltage transients and help designers comply with regulatory requirements. The series also protects exposed interfaces for industrial and ICT applications, including RS-485 data interfaces and AC/DC power supplies.

An important advantage of this series of diodes is that the switching voltage is much lower than the GDT, and the on-state voltage is much lower than the MOV and TVS diodes. The compact do-214ab (SMC) package is designed to provide 3kA(8/20) high power surge protection with low heat accumulation during long-term overvoltage events.

The series is suitable for a variety of applications in hazardous environments, including AC/DC power lines for factory automation, industrial/ICT applications, ESS power interfaces, DC/AC inverters for solar systems, UPS/AC high-power distribution grids, and electric vehicle charging systems.

Says Ben Huang, senior product marketing manager for Littelfuse's protected semiconductor business. "Continuous product miniaturization requirements have led to an increasing demand for compact, high-power density solutions," he said. "The Pxxx0S3N SIDACtor is significantly smaller than MOV and TVS diodes and is the first size product to offer such high inrush current protection in such a small package."
