ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, has developed the automotive LDO regulator*1 IC "BD9xxN1 series (BD950N1G- C, BD933N1G-C, BD900N1G-C, BD950N1WG-C, BD933N1WG-C, BD900N1WG-C)”. In recent years, with the acceleration of the electronic process of various devices, the number of electronic components installed has also increased day by day. In order to reduce the size and number of components, there is an increasing demand for reducing the number of capacitors that are often used to improve circuit stability. Therefore, power supply circuits increasingly require power supply ICs that can operate stably even with small capacitors. However, it is difficult to ensure the stability required for application products with an output capacitance of 1 μF or less.

In order to solve these problems, ROHM established the ultra-stable control technology "Nano Cap" for power ICs in 2020. This new product has realized an LDO regulator that can operate stably even with a very small output capacitor by incorporating Nano Cap™ technology. The new product is a new series of automotive LDO regulators equipped with ROHM's own ultra-stable control technology "Nano Cap", which supports output capacitance as low as 100nF (nanofarad: 10 to the negative ninth power), which is less than ordinary products. 1/10, and even when the input voltage and load current*2 fluctuate, the stable operation required by the application product can be achieved (within 100mV of output voltage fluctuation: when the load current fluctuates 1mA⇔50mA/1µs). The new product supports an ultra-wide range of output capacitance, not only for ordinary small MLCCs (multilayer ceramic capacitors) and large-capacity electrolytic capacitors of several μF, but also for 0603 below 1μF, which was difficult to operate stably in previous practical applications. The size of the ultra-small MLCC, therefore, not only contributes to the miniaturization of components and circuit boards, but also can be used in a wider range of capacitor conditions, which contributes to the reduction of design man-hours.

"BD9xxN1 series" is a new product of automotive primary LDO series, which meets the requirements of automotive products operating above 125°C and the reliability standard "AEC-Q100" for automotive electronic products, and also meets the basic requirements of primary power input voltage above 40V. Utilizing the newly equipped ultra-stable control technology "Nano Cap™", the new product can support 100nF output capacitance, which is less than 1/10 of the ordinary product, and can achieve the required performance of the application product even when the input voltage and load current fluctuate. Stability (the output voltage fluctuates within 100mV: when the load current fluctuates 1mA⇔50mA/1µs). Focusing on supporting the output capacitance range and response performance, it provides the industry's high-performance products with balanced performance.
