SDRAM reduces power consumption and extends battery life

Technology Cover
Post Date: 2022-02-17, Alliance Memory, Inc.

Alliance Memory extends its high-speed CMOS mobile low-power SDRAM with a new LPDDR4X device with on-chip ECC. As an extension to the company's fourth-generation LPDDR4 SDRAM, the 8Gb AS4C256M32MD4V-062BAN offers -50% power rating in a 200-ball FBGA package for higher power efficiency.

Compared to LPDDR4 SDRAM's 1.1V operating voltage, the device has extended the battery life of portable electronic products in commercial, consumer and industrial markets such as smartphones and smart speakers using AI and 5G technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

In embedded applications, SDRAM offers increased efficiency for advanced audio and ultra-high resolution video with a clock speed of 1.6GHz and a transfer rate of 3.2Gbps. For automotive applications including ADAS systems, the AEC-Q100 qualified equipment can operate in the temperature range from -40C to +105C.

Each device has two channels, each consisting of eight groups of 16 bits. Components provide fully synchronous operations; Programmable read and write burst length 16,32, and in flight; And optional output drive strength. The temperature sensor on the chip controls the self-refresh rate.

The SDRAM provides a reliable plug-in, pin-for-Pin-compatible alternative to many similar solutions for high-bandwidth, high-performance memory system applications, eliminating the need for expensive redesigns and component recertification.
