ST's FingerTip FTG2-SLP touchscreen controller implements advanced features that support the latest active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays, promising to make smartphones more power efficient and last longer.

Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) AMOLED displays and similar proprietary displays dynamically control the display refresh rate based on screen usage, with slower screen refresh rates when running less demanding applications, playing games, streaming media, etc. The refresh rate is high during tasks, during which the display driver minimizes power consumption and ensures a great user experience.

ST's FingerTip FTG2-SLP touch controller supports both synchronous and asynchronous display modes of operation, enabling OEMs to maintain a seamless interactive experience while the refresh rate is dynamically changing. The controller is also ideal for smartphones with flexible AMOLED displays, which integrate the touch-sensing pad directly on the OLED light-emitting layer, making the phone extremely thin.

FingerTip FTG2-SLP is equipped with Arm® Cortex®-M4 core and integrates large-capacity flash memory, which can flexibly implement advanced touch functions. In addition, ST's proprietary hardware and firmware and a special sleep mode ensure that the chip consumes very little power, helping to further maximize battery life.

The chip's analog front end (AFE) utilizes a differential architecture and multiple scanning methods to ensure error-free touch detection. The internal design also ensures that the inherent noise of the controller is very low, resulting in a high signal-to-noise ratio. The 480Hz reporting rate captures every touch event even at the highest refresh rate.
