The new Rohde & Schwarz R & s qar50 is an excellent solution for measuring radomes and bumpers in production environments. The innovative design of the tester ensures short measurement time and accuracy, and the reproduced results have an attractive price / performance ratio. The highly modular software concept enables the equipment to adapt to different requirements.

For design reasons, these are usually mounted behind the bumper or logo. Advanced driver assistance functions require vehicle radar sensors. Based on the experience of the test equipment, the quality of the radome is heavily dependent on the reflectivity, transmission loss and uniformity of the components being tested.

Compared with traditional unfocused single point measurement. The R&S QAR and R&S QAR50 use microwave imaging and have many advantages. Especially in production, reliable and direct operation and short cycle times are essential. The device's user-friendly interface simplifies measurement of the vehicle's radar band -- even if the user does not have detailed RF knowledge. Many optimizations have resulted in measurement times well below 5 seconds, significantly reducing production cycle time.

A single point measurement shows only the frequency response of the reflectivity at a particular point, and the tester also shows the spatial distribution of the reflectivity. The imaging method provides information about whether the component under test is properly positioned. Tracking the maximum reflection point provides information about component positioning. Because the method makes the transmitting antenna and receiving antenna far apart and does not affect the measurement results, the device provides more space for the clamping and unclamping of the components under test. The clearance height of about 100cm between the antenna clusters reduces the mechanical force required to position the components. This eliminates the need for robot locators and cages, and the basic shell for occupational safety can be significantly smaller.

Complete limit testing of transmission phase, transmission loss, uniformity and reflectivity can be performed in both frequency and spatial domains, depending on the software configuration. The modular software concept enables testers to be cost-effectively adapted to the specific needs of automobile manufacturers. All software options can also be purchased at a later date to ensure the long-term availability of the device when deployed in EOL.
