TDK has increased its range of TVS diodes with bidirectional overvoltage protection with significantly low capacitance values to include the ULC family (ultra-low clamping and capacitance). The minimum capacitance of SD01005SL-ULC101 is ~0.5pF, and the minimum capacitance of SD0201SL-ULC101 is ~0.6pF, both at 1MHz.

The maximum operating voltage of the new TVS diode is 3.3V. ULC products provide an extremely low clamp voltage of approximately 3.8V at a peak pulse current of 8 or 16A, a peak pulse current of approximately 5V, and a breakdown voltage of 6.3V. Other features include extremely short response times and an extremely low leakage current of about 1nA at 3.3v. They are manufactured according to IEC 61000-4-2 for ESD contact discharges up to 15kV.

Despite the high level of performance of the rugged protection element, the diode meets the highest requirements of miniaturization. They are only 400µm x 200µm (WL-CSP01005) or 600µm x 300µm (WL-CSP0201) in size in WL-CSP, with height of 100µm in size 01005 or 150µm in size 0201. Despite their minimal size, these components are suitable for high inrush current loads up to 7A and conform to the IEC 61000-4-5 (8/20µs) standard.

Due to their parasitic capacitance and clamp voltage, these diodes are ideal for reliable ESD protection against high-speed interface ics and data lines including USB 3.1, USB 3.2, HDMI, FireWire, and Thunderbolt.

Typical target applications include smartphones, laptops, tablets, wearables, and ESD-sensitive network components.
