Vishay Intertechnology has announced the introduction of a new line of low-impedance, automotive grade miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the 172 RLX, that offer superior performance and reduced dimensions to previous generation solutions. Vishay BCcomponents 172 RLX series capacitors have ripple currents up to 4.9A and can operate at +105 °C for up to 10,000 hours. The Vishay BCComponents 172 RLX series capacitors are available in 14 dimensions from 10 mm x 12 mm to 18 mm x 40 mm.


The recently released capacitors comply with the AEC-Q200 standard with smaller dimensions, lower impedance and higher capacity for a given package and voltage, providing a 54% increase in ripple current for the same rated capacitance-voltage (CV). For example, the previous generation solution 1000 mF / 10 V rated CV device comes in a 10 mm x 16 mm package with a ripple current of 1100 mA, and the 172 RLX series capacitors come in a 10 mm x 12 mm package with a ripple current of 1700 mA. As a result, designers can use fewer components, improve design flexibility and save board space.


The 172 RLX series capacitors are radial leads, blue sleeve insulated cylindrical aluminum housing, with pressure relief devices, rated for voltages up to 50 V, capacities 150 µF to 15 000 µF, and impedance as low as 0.011 W at +20 °C. The capacitor has the function of anti-charge and discharge.


As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolytes, these RoHs-compliant devices are suitable for smoothing, filtering and buffering switching power supplies, DC/DC converters, motor drives and control units in industrial, automotive, communications, audio-video, and electronic data processing (EDP) applications.
